In these uncertain times, it's now more important than ever that we support our local independent businesses that are facing difficult times. Obviously, if you don't want to venture out there are a number of ways you can still support these businesses - buying a gift card, getting online deliveries or taking-away.


In this post, we share must-visit independent shops to see in Edinburgh.


Lifestory


One for every interiors lover, Lifestory is Edinburgh's destination store for Scandi homewares, jewellery and accessories. They also serve up top notch coffee in their stylish wee nook to the back of the shop.


Narcissus


If you've popped into Life Story, head across the road where you'll find Narcissus who sell an unrivalled selection of flowers and plants - whether you're after a cute cactus or beautiful bouquet.


Curioser & Curioser


Yet another indie business that calls Broughton Street home is Curioser & Curioser, stocking a selection of gifts, prints, homewares and prints.


Homer


Another go to for the interiors obsessed, Homer can be found in a beautiful Georgian townhouse in the New Town. Laid out over 5 rooms, each covering a different theme for the home.


Cloud 9


Selling a range of gifts, jewellery, accessories and houseplants for good measure, Cloud 9 is a must visit for anyone in the Abbeyhill area of the city.

Pop across the road and you'll find Home, Cloud 9's sister store selling beautiful homewares and interiors.


Mud Station Pottery


Whilst in the Abbeyhill area, be sure to pop to Montrose Terrace where you'll find the likes of Mud Pottery amongst others. Browse stonewares handmade on site with a range of gifts and homewares for everyone.


We Make Edinburgh


Another gem to be found on Montrose Terrace is We Make, comprising studios, shopping and workshops. Pop along to a workshop - from making your own lampshade, macrame plant hangers to cactus string art, or browse their handmade goods by local makers.


IJ Mellis Cheesemonger


IJ Mellis is unmissable, mainly for the smell from the street alone. With several branches dotted round the city, this is the perfect place to pick up some weird and wonderful cheeses.


Armchair Books


Lose yourself in this treasure chest of second hand books with shelves stacked full spanning right up to the ceiling. You'll find Armchair Books in Edinburgh's Grassmarket.


Hannah Zakari


Also found in Edinburgh's historic Grassmarket, Hannah Zakari sells a gorgeous selection of jewellery, accessories and art by indie designers.


Paper Tiger


With an impressive selection of cards, stationary, gifts and accessories, Paper Tiger is perfect for popping in to and picking up something that little bit different.


Dahlia


Indoor plant specialists based in Marchmont, aesthetically pleasing Dahlia Store sells a beautiful selection of house plants, ceramics, candles and skincare.


The Chocolate Tree


For those with a sweet tooth, the Chocolate Tree in Bruntsfield is renowned for their handmade, artisan chocolates.

While in Bruntsfield don't miss Snapdragon, a gorgeous indie flower and plant shop also selling handmade candles and running floral workshops.


Elk & Wolf


Situated in a charming Old Town tenement on the cobbled Cockburn Street, Elk & Wolf offer bohemian inspired interiors, jewellery and gifts.

Another of Edinburgh's great independent bookshops, Golden Hare Books is a charming spot full to the brim of books and even a wood-burning stove.


Coco Chocolatier


Also located in Stockbridge, Coco Chocolatier are innovators in chocolate, serving up stylish bars designed by contemporary artists.

A haven of interiors, lighting, accessories and furniture, Catalog is yet another Stockbridge gem.

One for the ladies, ALC specialise in denim, offering a curated range of jeans from global brands plus clothing and accessories to go with alongside.

Pop into Rosevear to browse their impressive and varied selection of loose leaf teas.


Grow Urban


The most instagrammable plant shop, Grow Urban offer a huge range of house plants in all shapes and sizes, plus, they serve up a mean coffee to go with them.
