(We were kindly invited to stay at The Boathouse but all views are our own)

Just a few miles from Edinburgh, you'll find The Boathouse, on the grounds of the beautiful Dundas Castle. It may be just a stone's throw from the capital, but you'd be stretched to find a more secluded, tranquil retreat.

Whether you want to soak up the delights of your local area with a short staycation, are celebrating a special occasion or are visiting Edinburgh and want to experience the remoteness of the countryside not far from the city - The Boathouse is the perfect place to relax and unwind.

The Boathouse is a charming, self-catering cottage situated on the bank of Dundas Loch. Surrounded by nature, wildlife and waters, expect stunning, picture-perfect views across the loch.

Consisting of a small but fully functional kitchen, bathroom providing luxurious L'Occtaine goodies, an open plan bedroom and living area complete with cosy fire, a peaceful window seat where you can sit and admire the views over the loch, and all the trims and finishes you'd expect from a cute wee cottage.

The masterpiece? For us it had to be the veranda. Sitting out as the sun goes down over the loch, soaking up the peace and tranquility with no-one in sight expect a few geese and ducks is definitely a great way to spend an evening. Gin and whisky are also provided if, like us, you fancy a wee tipple al fresco before heading in doors and warming up by the fire.

By morning, throw the curtains open to see loch-side views from your bed, the perfect way to wake up.

Other useful facilities include:

  • En-suite shower room with bathrobes, towels and toiletries

  • Tassimo coffee machine

  • Cosy seating area with electric coal fire and television

  • Wi-Fi

  • Parking Space
